The Brisbane Sign

The national ABC morning news program was televised in front of the 'Brisbane' sign at South Bank this morning. The large letters spelling out the name of the city were built by the Queensland Men's Shed Association which is a voluntary organisation that aims to advance the well being and health of men by providing a place for them to work on projects with other men. The letters were then decorated by various community groups.

                         

The temporary sign was placed alongside the river bank as part of the G20 cultural celebrations. It has been so popular with tourists and locals alike and everybody wants their photo taken in front of it. They are now making a permanent sign to replace it as this one is falling apart and I only hope that the permanent sign will be something similar as it adds colour to the city skyline. It was lit up at night during the celebrations, so I hope the permanent sign will have lights too.
